To remain compliant with Uber and Lyft requirements, a vehicle inspection must be completed annually or every 50,000 miles, whichever occurs first. • Do the rideshare inspections require an appointment made in advance?
Great news - No appointment needed!

With Tinker, you can start your inspection whenever it’s convenient for you. Just open the app, connect with a certified expert, and complete your inspection on your schedule - no waiting, no hassle.

  • How do you inspect my car without being physically present?
We perform all inspections virtually through live video chat — using technology to thoroughly verify every item on the required 19-25 point vehicle inspection. Your assigned Tinker Expert will carefully review your car and confirms it meets the required standards set by Lyft, Uber, and Turo.

Please note, we focus exclusively on rideshare inspections (19–22 points) and are not a full-service mechanic, so we don’t perform comprehensive safety checks. Ready to get your virtual inspection? Schedule your video appointment today and get approved without leaving your driveway!
  • Do I need to schedule an appointment for my rideshare inspection?
No appointment is necessary. All inspections are conducted virtually through your smartphone. Simply register your account with Tinker DIY, then initiate a video call with a certified expert at your convenience to complete the rideshare inspection.
  • Is my private information safe?
Your privacy is our highest priority. We never share your data with third parties. To learn more about how we protect your information, please review our full privacy policy here.
  • How soon after the inspection can I start driving as a rideshare driver?
Once your inspection is complete, we’ll email you a signed inspection form. Be sure to upload this document to your specific rideshare company’s driver profile (Uber, Lyft, etc.) for the most accurate next steps. Each platform will let you know if any additional requirements are needed before you can start driving. Don’t wait — complete your inspection today and get one step closer to hitting the road!
  • Can I use the same inspection form as someone else? (Duplicate use)
No, you cannot use the same inspection form as someone else for rideshare driving (like Uber or Lyft). While the inspection itself may be similar, the forms typically require specific driver information (like name, license number, etc.) and are often tied to the individual driver and their account.
  • I am a new driver. Can I pay after approval by Uber or Lyft?
No, payment is required before your inspection begins. With Tinker, you get up to three attempts per purchase to pass your inspection. Approval by Uber or Lyft is a separate process, and Tinker is not involved in background or document verification.
  • Are all the car experts and mechanics certified on Tinker?
No, however, all Tinker experts are either ASE-certified, ARD/State Licensed, or experienced dealership trained mechanics with professional experience. We carefully vet each expert to ensure they meet our high standards for technical knowledge and customer support. You can trust you’re getting advice from someone who knows their stuff.
  • Do you work for Uber or Lyft?
No, Tinker is not affiliated with Uber or Lyft. We specialize in providing independent, 19 to 25-point vehicle inspections through a convenient video chat, designed to meet the requirements of rideshare platforms without the need for in-person visits.
  • Do you store my credit card information?
No, all transactions are processed through Stripe, which does not store payment info
  • I just got my car - are temp tags (temporary license plate tags) okay?
    Yes, temporary tags are acceptable.
  • Is it okay if I have an out-of-state license plate or driver’s license?
Yes, out-of-state license plate and driver's license are allowed for the Tinker rideshare vehicle inspections. However, please check Uber and Lyft rideshare driver requirements for their out-of-state credentials.
  • Do I need to get a car wash before my rideshare vehicle inspection?
No, but vehicles must be clean enough to inspect.
  • What if I am not listed on the insurance?
Insurance is not required for inspections. However, rideshare companies such as Uber/Lyft require the driver to be listed on the policy.
  • Does the car have to be registered in my name?
No, however, you must be listed on the insurance policy.
  • Can I use a 2‑door car to drive for Uber or Lyft?
Yes, but only for Uber Eats. 2-door cars are not acceptable for UberX or Lyft.

You must be at least 21 year old for UberX or Lyft, and at least 18 year old for Uber Eats.
  • Will you submit my completed inspection form to Uber or Lyft?

No, you will receive the completed inspection form via text or email. You must upload the form to your driver profile yourself.

  • Can my spouse submit the same inspection form?
No, each individual driver must submit their own form with their own information.
  • If I get an inspection with you, can you guarantee my approval to drive?
No. Tinker conducts vehicle inspections but does not control or guarantee approval from rideshare companies such as Uber, Lyft or Turo. Final approval to drive depends on multiple factors, including background checks and driving records, which are managed directly by the rideshare platforms.
